Marriage and Prayer, Preview
I'm starting a series (kind of) this month. Well, on two things, really, but they go together in alot of ways. March is going to be lots of posting on Marriage and Prayer. The reason I'm telling you this tonight instead of tomorrow, which is March 1st, is because there's something that I'd like for you to join me in.
I'm going through something I found online (I'll give sources etc tomorrow - too tired to look it back up now) -- 31 Days of Praying For Your Husband. Of course, wives should ALWAYS pray for their husbands, but this month I'm going to focus on it with a new fervor. If you're not a wife, that's okay - you can join me anyway. You can pray for your wife, your boyfriend/girlfriend, or any other relationship that's important to you.
I'm posting these 1 day in advance because I don't know when you're prayer time is during the day. I always spend a long time in prayer after Nate goes to sleep and before I do (it takes me a good hour or so to fall asleep, and it takes Nate about .5 seconds, so I have a good long amount of time that I fill with prayer). Nate's is in the morning when he wakes up. Just in case yours is early morning also, I'll post this the night before so that you can have it ready.
Tomorrow is Day 1....
Day 1- Pray that your husband will grow spiritually and consider his accountability before the Lord. Pray that he will guard his heart by developing spiritual disciplines--Bible reading and study, prayer, meditation, and scripture memorization. (2 Peter 3:18; Prov. 4:23).
I'll elaborate on this tomorrow. I've got all sorts of stuff saved up on this topic - stuff I've found, articles, my random thoughts, scripture, etc. I think I might enjoy this whole "series" idea. At least it will make me post every day.
Random random random but you need it.
Once again, I have to apologize for not regularly updating as of late. Of course, my only excuse is that I have been busy. Whether or not it's a good one is up to you.
The childrens ministry has taken up alot more of my time than I had originally expected, but it has been a good thing. It has been really neat to learn how the ministry works and work on developing new ideas and ways to improve what is already in place. There happen to be alot of new changes taking place right when I'm coming on board, so I'm afraid that it's making me look like the Childrens Ministry Nazi or something, but hopefully people will understand that it's not all my doing. It just happens to fall at the same time that I'm starting. In all, it's been really good. I will say, though, that Nate is getting tired of having a house full of things that look like they came straight out of a kindergarten classroom!
Seminary is going well. I'm almost halfway through my first semester (crazy how fast time flies, huh?) I'm only taking one class and I'm having a hard time keeping up with the reading....not because its too much, but because it seems like there are a MILLION things that need my attention all the time. And of course, my favorite of those things is Nate, which doesnt help the situation. He is a HUGE distraction and I never get any work done around him. For some reason, the voice of Nate saying "come snuggle on the couch" seems louder than the voice of my book saying "come read me." He'll see what its like when he starts classes this summer. I'll get him back (:
We finally got the new computers at work, and I feel like I'm sitting in a movie theatre at my desk because my screen is so huge. We've been having trouble getting all of the computers on the network to talk to each other, though, which has been a little bit of a problem. Dad says hes going to send them all to counseling so that they can learn how to communicate. Ha.
Speaking of work, I stapled my finger this morning. All the way. And if you've never done that, it hurts BAD. Actually, the stapling part doesnt hurt too badly, its the staple-removal part that hurts. Don't try that one at home. Just trust me. My finger is a little purple now.
Oh, and I added a snazzy little picture thingy for you on the right side of the screen. Like it? Also, right under it is a way to sign up for email-notices if you want to know when I've updated. That way you don't have to check back all the time. You'll just get an email saying when I've changed something on the site.
Also, I'm about to have the new blog up and running. There will be 2 blogs on this page.... one for random stuff like this that really doesnt matter much to anyone...basically just me rambling, procrastinating, ranting, whatever. The other will be for serious discussion of topics of consequence. And yes, I do have the ability to talk about such things, I just don't seem to do it much on here. But I always mean to. I have several great posts brewing away in my head right now that are just waiting to be put down, but they're waiting for the right venue. Soon, they'll have one. Its also just another step in the way of getting this little website to what it will eventually be.... which is a whole other post in itself.
Anyhoo, there's your update for the day.
Also, I'm trying a new recipe tonight which will possibly I might add to the site if its good. I'm not good at eyeballing a recipe and being able to tell if its going to be tasty or not, so who knows. This one looks interesting, but it has good reviews. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Here's the recipe:
Sweet & Tangy Chicken
Ingredients:| 1 tbsp. vegetable oil |
| 4 boneless chicken breast halves |
| 1 can (10 3/4 oz.) Campbell's® Condensed Tomato Soup |
| 1 tbsp. packed brown sugar (I'll use Splenda Brown Sugar) |
| 2 tbsp. vinegar |
| 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce |
| 4 cups hot cooked rice |
Directions:
HEAT oil in skillet. Add chicken and cook until browned. **PS, it was good. |
update
I am sick and ultrabusy. The shot yesterday that I received in my backside was supposed to help at least one of those, but it did neither.
On the plus side, my new computer will be delivered to the office today.
Also, Hunter and Vicki (our pastor and his wife) are having their first baby today. Hooray for babies!
Because I don't feel like writing a full post...
1. Dallas for Will's birthday was fun.
2. Orlando for the International Builders' Show was fun. We went to Downtown Disney.
3. Valentines was perfect.
I hid cards all over the place for Nate several days leading up to Wednesday. Since he had to lead the guys' Biblestudy that night, we had a lunch date. We weren't supposed to do gifts, but he bought me a little happy anyway.
4. Nate is in Ocean Springs playing music for a retreat. I'm ready for him to come home.
5. Today is Mawmaw's 94th birthday and Luke's 1st. We celebrated. Luke celebrated harder.
6. I am officially the new children's ministry director for Madison Heights. Two jobs + seminary = busy Nikki.
How I feel when I start reading one of my books for seminary...
"Beginning to study theology is like stepping into a conversation that has been going on for two-thousand years." -written on the back of my Pocket Dictionary of Theological Terms.
Don't worry
I'm still here.
